We are pleased to introduce Dr. JoBeth McCarthy, DHSc, MPH, CPH, as the new Executive Director of the Pheo Para Alliance.
JoBeth brings more than 20 years of leadership in public health, healthcare, research administration, and nonprofit governance. She has led initiatives at the federal, state, and local levels.
Experience in Cancer and Health Equity
Most recently, JoBeth served as Program Director and Social and Behavioral Health Science Administrator in the Diversity Training Branch at the National Cancer Institute’s Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities. In that role, she managed a research portfolio of more than $80 million each year. In addition, she focused on increasing the participation of diverse researchers and clinician–scientists in cancer and health disparities research. She also worked to strengthen the biomedical research pipeline and to advance health equity. As a result, more patients can receive high-quality, patient-centered care.
Proven Leadership and Partnership Skills
Throughout her career, JoBeth has built and led programs from design through evaluation. Her experience includes fundraising, grants management, financial oversight, and strategic partnership development.
Moreover, she has worked closely with boards of directors, advocated for patients and families, and provided strategic consulting to organizations committed to equity and improved outcomes.
A Smooth Transition and Strong Future
With this background and a deep commitment to the Pheo Para community, JoBeth is well-positioned to guide the Pheo Para Alliance through its next phase of growth and impact.
Meanwhile, our outgoing Executive Director, Stephanie Alband, MBA, will work alongside JoBeth over the next several weeks to support a smooth transition. We are grateful for Stephanie’s leadership and many contributions to patients, families, clinicians, and researchers around the world.
